Sony has scheduled a media event for February 20th. When asked, Sony claims we will see “the future of video games”.
The next generation of Playstation, codenamed “Orbis”, is rumored to be announced at this event. Sony tweeted a video (read on for link) which may even give us a glimpse of the hardware for this new system. Prior to this tweet, many speculated that Sony would unveil its new console during this year’s E3, but they might also be looking to release it before Microsoft releases the next generation of Xbox. Sony does have a history of releasing new systems before E3 though, the most recent example being the PS Vita, announced on January 27th.
There are also rumors that this Playstation will allow you to record gameplay and share it online, without the need for an expensive capture device. This would be incredibly useful for the internets fast-growing video game recording and commentary community. The quality of the video may not be so great, though, and voice recording will not be included.
