Q2 2013

The second quarter of 2013 ended… three weeks ago, but whatever. Better late than never, right?

April 4th: Facebook hosts an event to announce their Facebook Home software and their collaboration product with HTC, the HTC First. The First was later taken off the market. https://thetechnorth.wordpress.com/2013/04/06/facebook-home-and-htc-first/

April 11th: Electronic Arts wins The Consumerist’s “Worst Company in America” award – for the second year in a row. You’re clearly not getting the message, are you, EA? https://thetechnorth.wordpress.com/2013/04/11/ea-wins-the-consumerists-worst-company-in-america-award-for-the-second-year-in-a-row/

April 20th: Google announces its plans to expand the Google Fiber network to… Provo, Utah. A.K.A. Nowhere, USA. https://thetechnorth.wordpress.com/2013/04/20/google-fiber-coming-to-two-new-cities/

May 6th: The first 3D printed gun is fired on video. The blueprints were available to download on the internet. Look, you moron, how about you use a 3D printer to make something non-destructive, like maybe a 3D printed cake? https://thetechnorth.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/first-3d-printed-gun-fired-on-video-blueprints-available-for-download/

May 15th-17th: Google I/O is hosted in San Francisco. And, uh, pretty much nothing happened.

May 20th: Yahoo! buys Tumblr for $1.1 billion. Wait, Yahoo! still exists?

May 21st: Microsoft unleashes their next generation of home gaming console, the Xbox One. It has been widely speculated that this will be the least successful console of its generation.

June 10th-14th: Apple’s WWDC is held in San Francisco. iOS is sent in a time machine to the year 2050.

June 11th-13th: E3 happens.in LA. TheTechNorth reacts with a solid meh.

Yeah… sorry

I’m sorry.

Why haven’t I posted over the last couple of weeks? Well, not enough news, not enough support to make it seem worth it, and general laziness.

On the other hand, TheTechNorth in video format IS COMING. I’m hoping to have the first vid up on August 5th, and I’m going to try to keep the schedule from this blog. For now though, I need some of your advice.

I’ve been looking at microphones to use for the videos. Currently, I’m on track for a RØDE SmartLav mic, but I’m willing to go for other lapel microphones which are good quality at a reasonable price. Any tips? Please send them in before July 29th.

So, I guess there is no point in saying what schedule I’m going to follow. I’ll try to post one or two things per week, but they will be on random days or maybe not there at all. I can’t guarantee anything.

NOTE: I still need some support for TheTechNorth on YouTube if it’s going to become a thing. So head over and subscribe. The link is below.

Normal schedule now (for real this time)

So the summer cabin I went to didn’t have any internet access whatsoever. On the other hand, it was a nice stay, with temperatures in the high teens and low 20s (CELSIUS – Norway isn’t that cold), perfect swimming conditions (and a beach nearby where one could do so), and since it was on top of a hill, it was a perfect rock exploring place. In case that doesn’t make you jealous, here’s a picture of the view I was enjoying:

So yeah.

OK, seriously this time

I wasn’t able to post anything last week due to school being… school, but now I’m on Summer Break, so I have much more time to work with. I’ve also learned my lesson about trying to get an insanely long blog post out the same day that what I’m writing about happened.

So, one post on Wednesday, one on Friday, then normal schedule from that point on. (Actually, I might not be able to post on Wednesday or Friday. I’m going to a summer cabin with very limited internet access. So sue me.)

Too much stuff

I was writing a WWDC 2013 post that should have been up on Monday, but ended up digging quite a bit into my Tuesday. I scrapped it, because it just felt like way too much.

I was also planning three E3 posts (Microsoft today, Nintendo tomorrow, Sony on Friday) but I ended up scrapping those as well.

In short, too much stuff has been going on this week. There will be no posts until next week, so I can relax a little.

Sorry about further delays.

TheTechNorth on YouTube?

During the time I was inactive, when I was thinking about the blog, I was thinking of one thing in particular: turning TheTechNorth into a YouTube show.

There, I would record myself giving you the latest technology news several times a week. I’m not completely open to putting myself in front of a camera, so that’s a little scary for me, but most of all, I’m worried about the ratings and the reviews I’ll get on those videos. Not to mention if they’ll get enough attention to even be worth making. So please, help me out by following these simple steps:

  1. Subscribe to TheTechNorth’s YouTube channel. The link is below.
  2. Tell your friends about this blog, and the possibility of turning it into a video series.
  3. Wait for the videos. If all goes well, I should be uploading the first one in August.

Any tips you could give me to help make this idea a reality? Anything you think I should avoid? Help me out in the comments.

EDIT: I’m also on the lookout for a microphone I could use, so if you know of a fairly cheap, good quality lapel microphone I could get, tell me in the comments.

TheTechNorth is BACK!

After a 3-week period of writer’s block (combined with general laziness), TheTechNorth is back. My opinion on what happened since mid-May?

The new Xbox sucks, I hope Yahoo! doesn’t screw up Tumblr, Google I/O was boring, and

Anyway, the first post of the month will be here tomorrow, followed by one more on Friday. After that, the normal schedule will resumed. Thank you for being paitent and staying with me even though I was completely inactive during these last few weeks.
